DynaPix HD / DynaPix — Powered by D.I.S.T.

D.I.S.T. technology is the reason behind the superb picture quality that DynaPix and DynaPix HD models have to offer. First introduced in 2002, JVC's exclusive D.I.S.T. or digital image scaling technology has evolved supremely to complement the distinctive characteristics of LCD panel TVs, providing these models with very impressive high-definition images.

This exceptional technology incorporates both core and supporting components that work together, enhancing flat panel TV picture quality to a level that must be seen firsthand to be truly appreciated.

D.I.S.T. Core Components

Core components of D.I.S.T. include a N/R (noise reduction) system, I-P converter, and formatter.

DynaPix HD N/R System

A multitude of noise reduction technologies such as a new algorithm that performs optimal correction without degrading original picture quality by detecting the type of noise — digital/analogue broadcasting, DVD content, or HD signals — and its location, can be found within the DynaPix HD N/R System.

The 3D N/R detects signal noise in real-time and controls the amount of noise reduction as required. MPEG N/R detects block noise and logical noise separately found in DVD content. Block Noise Suppressor automatically detects and removes block noise in MPEG data, whereas Logical Noise Eliminator reduces "mosquito" noise that can generate on the upper frequency range in MPEG data. Another noise reduction element is the 3D Y/C Separator that reduces cross colour and dot interference remaining in the digital broadcasting or component signal.

RF Noise Reduction System (for LT-37M60)

Automatic noise reduction is performed on incoming analogue RF signals. However, depending on where the antenna is situated or on interference, the electrical field of analogue aerial broadcasting may be weakened and noise generated. To eliminate this problem, an RF N/R processor automatically detects variations in electrical fields to reduce unwanted noise.

I-P Converter and Formatter

In addition to simple interlace-to-progressive signal conversion for analogue interlace signals, Motion Adaptive I-P Converter on the DynaPix HD models significantly reduces rough, jagged lines even in images with complicated curved lines such as those with lots of movement.

After the I-P conversion process, picture information is then interpolated with the Formatter relative to the number of pixels that the display panel has to offer.

D.I.S.T. Supporting Components

After the signal passes through the core components, it is further processed by the supporting components to ensure optimum control of contour, colour and contrast for excellent picture quality.

Super DigiPure

Super DigiPure circuit adjusts contour details to better match the image. A process called in-band shoot/supplementary shoot-less and an original algorithm finely tunes the image. As a result, fast moving-images have clear edges, slow motion images are natural yet sharp, and still pictures are crisp and detailed.

Dynamic Picture Management

Based on histogram information compiled every second for 50 frames, Dynamic Picture Management performs complex calculations for each frame in real-time to ensure optimum brightness, gradation, and colour intensity. To further optimise image quality, this feature works simultaneously with Gamma Curve Control to give the picture an added three-dimensional presence.

Colour Management

Colour Management is designed to enhance colours of the image, reproducing them as close as possible to the original source. It accurately adjusts specific points in the colour spectrum to recreate red, blue, green, yellow, and skin tones more naturally and vibrantly.

Dynamic Black Level Control

To increase contrast in both bright and dark scenes, Dynamic Black Level Control is as sensitive as the human eye in perceiving the appropriate amount of ambient light. By controlling black levels, Dynamic Black Level Control improves overall image gradation by adding more contrast.

Gamma Curve Control

Working in real time with Dynamic Picture Management, Gamma Curve Control controls image brightness by recreating natural-looking contrast, which helps to add extra depth and presence when scenes are bright.

IC with Dedicated 32-bit CPU for Video Processing

A new 32-bit processor on DynaPix HD models performs at twice the speed of the previous CPU and integrates all processing of D.I.S.T. technology into a powerful chip to ensure finer grayscaling and contrast adjustment, recreating a far more vivid picture ideally suited to today's larger display sizes. And in preparation of the transition to HD sources including packaged media and broadcasting, this new chip is ready to process up to full HD (1920 x 1080) video signals.

DynaPix model (LT-37M60) incorporates an original image-processing IC with a dedicated 32-bit CPU that optimises the colour, contrast, and gamma control in real time to enhance diverse TV images.

Clear Motion Drive (for LT-37M60)

To alleviate blurring or ghost images that appear when there is rapid or complex movement across the LCD screen, JVC developed an original technology called Clear Motion Drive. It doubles the frame rate to effectively halve hold time from 20 milliseconds per frame to 10 milliseconds to reduce motion blurring without affecting luminance and contrast. And thanks to the shorter frame rate, compensation can be applied for half the time, making it possible to realize a sharp rise (or higher overshoot) without causing ringing for a clear, well-defined picture.

World's 1st.* Clear Motion Drive *As of October 2005

With a conventional panel, moving objects appear blurred. Moving objects are seen smoothly on the panel with Clear Motion Drive thanks to double-speed scanning.

Effective Points with MPRT

The MPRT (moving picture response time) measuring method accurately evaluates how the human eye perceives motion-blur when compared to conventional response speed of the panel. The graph represents the relationship between panel response speed and MPRT with conventional 50Hz drive and Clear Motion Drive. As can be seen, Clear Motion Drive is superior to the theoretical 0ms panel as it offers far less blurring.
